Hear two stories from Frances Meadows, who turns 106 years old today (August 14th, 2026)! Frances and her family joined Christ Church before ground was broken on Brownsboro Road in 1956 -- her husband Clyde, her children, and her mother joined on Easter Sunday during a service in Garnett Hall on the campus of the Masonic Homes. Frances was involved for many years with the United Methodist Women, serving as vice-president of the Louisville conference, leading committees, and doing volunteer work on behalf of Wesley House.

We'd like to thank Frances for sharing her stories with our church historian Mark Ray, and wish her a very happy 106th birthday!

Leah Bennett is a lover of food, a dedicated church-goer, and a volunteer with Open Door Ministries in Louisville, which among other things provides a free lunches throughout the week at Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church. You’ll hear Leah say that one of her mottos is to be bold and courageous, which I think you will definitely see as a theme of her life as you listen to our interview today. I learned so much from her just in a short time – we talk about her early life growing up on a farm and around the making and serving of food, how she found Christ Church and Open Door Ministries, and of course, how she listens and responds to God’s call in her life. Mark Ray has been a member of Christ Church for 32 years. He is a professional writer and editor, and has written for organizations such as Scouting America, Humana, The United Methodist Church, and many more as a freelance writer. He is also one of the most dedicated volunteers you will find here at Christ Church, serving with our youth ministries and as our current church historian.
