Parenting Today’s Teens

One Teen’s Lack of Motivation

Listen Later

Years ago I met a nineteen-year-old kid whose parents weren’t happy with him. He was lazy, wouldn’t go to college or get a job.
The more I talked to that family, the more the problem came into focus. Mom and Dad wanted their son to grow up. But the son had a different perspective. His exact words were: “I get three meals a day, I have shelter over my head, I’m comfortable, and my parents love me. What more could I want?”
I told his parents that their son would come to his senses when they stopped treating him like a child. Now, years later, this once-arrogant young man has grown into a healthy, independent adult. He’s even married with his own kids!
Do you have a child who’s happy to let you do everything for them? Hey, let go!
