I decided to call the biggest online diamond joint and find out if I could SEE what I was buying BEFORE I gave them  my cash.  (I think you know what the answer was.)  Then I gave a call to some independent jewelers to find out what their policy is.   Bottom line: Mom and Pop Jewelry stores are WAY more in your corner than those faceless diamond mills online.  Independent jewelers invest in diamonds, and you, before you walk in the door.  (And we're there for you after you take ownership of your jewelry too!)
