Editors Note: Sony purchased, then closed OnLive on April 30, 2015.
Dipping back in the mailbag – This week, we learned a little more about OnLive Desktop. This is a service that loads up a virtual windows box for you. Complete with Office 2010, and a couple other Windows programs.
OnLive Desktop is a service you sign up for. There is a free service, with 2 GB to use, then plans starting at $4.99 a month. Best part about this – you can use this on iPad or Android.
You can sign in on your computer to upload files to be used. For instance, I could upload power point presentations, then use the iPad to present. All you need is an internet connection.
You might wonder how OnLive can do this. There was a licensing issue with Windows 7, so to keep in compliance, it has switched to Windows Server 2008 R2. It takes a little bit of getting used to, but add a Bluetooth keyboard, and you could really get some Word documents written.
