For our 127th OFR, we welcome Leesh, who brings us a mix of what started this journey for her. It is always exciting to hear from another music lover what it was that sparked this change in their life forever. She was kind enough to share some words on the idea behind this set below.
"if you are curious about my introduction to the rave, it was mostly through dnb and uk dubstep and jungle and grime and breaks (as well as downtempo melodic stuff of course!). Then I started discovering dark and heavy techno and my world warped. those sounds are what got me freaking speakers. since I've started DJing i haven't yet dipped my toes in mixing what came before the house and techno that has guided me all of these years.
This mix was my first time trying these origin sounds out and after recording i felt a wild sense of completion, a sweet high. and it was insanely fun and natural creating it! I got to play some of the tracks that I used to lose my mind over as a young 17 year old Leesh, and some new ones that i can't get enough of."

Fresh behind the decks but no stranger to the dance floor, Leesh has been a dedicated speaker freaker for nearly a decade. She cut her teeth throwing local parties with REDUX in Buffalo, NY until heading to the Midwest. She is new to the Chicago scene and has participated as a mentee in each installation of the Chicago-based Walking & Falling DJ mentorship program geared for woman-id and nonbinary folks. Inspired by this she created Daisychain (https://soundcloud.com/daisychain_podcast), a weekly podcast series to showcase these artists and DJs and celebrate intersectionality in dance music. As a writer and music lover Leesh fused her two passions by founding Sequencer, a website covering the underground house and techno scene.
