After getting past a mistake I made, I reflect on privilege, gratitude, social responsibility, and perspective. With a lot happening in the world and having spent a lot of time reflecting on my life this week, this was something of an attempt to speak to those who have the power to instigate significant change while also acknowledging the suffering and struggle of people in difficult situations around the world.
Quotes:
"I prefer to be true to myself, even at the hazard of incurring the ridiculeof others, rather than to be false, and to incur my own abhorrence." - Frederick Douglass. Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass.
"I pray that the Lord may undeceive my ignorant brethren, and permit them to throw away pretensions, and seek after the substance of learning." - David Walker. Appeal to the Coloured Citizens of the World.
"No one is useless, and no one is expendable, and thus we must find ways to include those on the peripheries of life. For they have another way of looking at things; they see aspects of reality that are invisible to the centers of power where weighty decisions are made." - Pope Francis
