The Virtue of Open-Mindedness. Many intellectuals think that to hold to ones convictions with certainty and bravado somehow intimates a person who is close-minded— a sort of bad foundationalist, intellectually-prude individual stuck in the past. In this show we want to to unpack the seemingly paradoxical reality of firmly holding to our convictions while being open to revising them. Listen as Sam Welbaum, Mark Duling and special guest Dr. James Spiegel of Taylor University help us define and make careful distinctions between open-mindedness and beliefs in which one ought to be foreclosed, and criteria for determining both.
