OpenAI Aims for a $150 Billion Valuation

OpenAI is in talks to raise approximately $6.5 billion at a valuation of around $150 billion. 

This represents a substantial increase from its previous valuation:

  • The new $150 billion valuation is nearly double OpenAI's $86 billion valuation from earlier in 2024.
  • Just last week, OpenAI was reportedly aiming for a $100 billion valuation while seeking to raise $1 billion.
    • The funding round is expected to be led by Thrive Capital, an investment firm with a history of backing OpenAI.
    • Other potential investors in discussions include Microsoft, Apple, and Nvidia.
    • OpenAI is also reportedly seeking a $5 billion revolving credit line from banks.
      • The company now employs over 1,700 people and has added more than 1,000 new staff members recently.
      • OpenAI is developing increasingly advanced iterations of ChatGPT and related technologies, including image and video generation capabilities.

        • If successful, this funding round would make OpenAI one of the most valuable private companies in the world, second only to ByteDance (TikTok's parent company).
