Amir Abdullah is a DJ, record label owner, and music historian with an unparalleled knowledge of obscure and underappreciated classic gems. He’s one half of the legendary mixtape and DJ duo, Kon & Amir, former vice president of Fat Beats Records and owner of the record label 180 Proof, reissuing classics from the Strata Records catalogue.
In this interview, Amir talks about growing up in Boston and moving to NYC, record digging culture, behind the scenes of Kon & Amir’s legendary “On Track” series, and the responsibility of reissuing classic music in a respectful way.
