Maybe you've never heard of it or how difficult it is to set up or how much it costs. So let's talk about it first. We use OpenRouter because it gives you access to a plethora of AI models. Anything from OpenAI to Anthropic, which are the Claude models. To a whole ton of open source models too. Each with their own strengths. Now it's free to create an OpenRouter account.

And while you do need to purchase some credits to fund it, It's not a subscription. It's a one-time payment. And these credits are how you pay for your AI usage is completely separate from Chibi.

So as Chibi is generating words, it's using your OpenRouter credits and you just top them up when you run out. And don't worry, token costs are far lower than you might think. And you can track that activity in OpenRouter where you can see exactly how much things cost.

After you set up an account in OpenRouter there's a section called keys. In there you can create a new API key. It's one, click, it pops up a window where you can give it a name. And then click create. And then you're shown the new key with a copy button. Just click the copy button to copy it to your clipboard and then paste that into Chibi. Then hit the setup button and you're good to go. We'll add a few handpicked models to your Chibi account to get you started, but you're free to add any of the models offered by OpenRouter.
