We dedicate this audio to Major (Ret) Herman du Plessis. Herman shares some of his experiences in Operation Askari in an armoured reconnaissance unit that participated in the Angolan Bush War.


It is a sharing of military photos and memories from forty years ago. C Squadron, 1 Special Service Battalion was a fighting unit that was to cross into Angola in December 1983 as part of operation Askari. We talk about some of the day to day activities soldiers went through and what it felt like to participate in a cross border raid.
