Publisher's Summary:
In July of 2014, Dan, Eddie, and Govs sat at a bar talking shit about making beer. Two years later, they'd opened their own brewery on the Gold Coast in Australia called Black Hops. It's been an epic journey, from "the little situation" in China, to a collaboration with the biggest entertainment franchise on earth, and finally - launching a brewery.
Operation Brewery tells their story and gives you every last detail on how to build your own brewery on a budget. Most brewing books focus on how to make a good beer. To start a brewery in 2016 and beyond, it's no longer enough to make good beer. Any business is as much about planning and marketing as it is about the product you make.
Operation Brewery delves into how Black Hops navigated the tricky waters of opening a brewery and also provides specific advice on a range of startup topics such as:

Good book but lacking details
I loved Content Machine and 7 Day Startup books (Dan Norris's books). I assumed this book was about all the details on how to open a brewery (Least Covert Operation...). I know the photos are in the resource link on the website but it is very hard to follow the story without some pictures to illustrate. I was reading in the kindle. Not a single photo in the whole book! Come one, Dan! The book itself should have enough info to digest it, in my opinion.
I am not interested in openning a brewery. I am interested in the story as an entrepreneur. Another example, in the pricing section, you explained a little about how you were pricing, but only vague thoughts on that. Why not disclosing the costs and comparison with other beers showing the price and details in the book? It would be much more interesting! Maybe you have a reason not to show the details... but anyways...
How much it does the raw materials for brewing cost? Operating costs?
The book overall is good, although I have mechanical engineering background, all the technical terms without pictures are annoying to figure how they look like. And I think it lack a lot of details to be interesting the book itself.
I like your ideas and I follow you on social media, Dan. Take this as a constructive advice for next edition maybe. ;)
Cheers!
Tnanks and a big cheers.
Awesome read. Thank you. Would have loved more pictures about the brewery equipment. Wish you guys loads of success.
Best regards from Transylvania.
Three Stars
Some parts of the book were too detailed, some were very light
An open and honest take on starting a brewery
Hands down one of the best resources out there regarding how to open up a brewery. It highlights Black Hops journey from brewing that first beer to opening the brewery doors. It encompasses details that very few other breweries have talked about. Topics go in to detail like operating costs, major hurdles encountered, marketing strategies, approvals and licensing. Why other breweries have not done this is perplexing. The majority of readers will not take the plunge into opening a brewery due to the capital investment it requires but still want to know the story and problems the brewery faced along the way. Most of what you will read on the internet from established breweries make obvious and unhelpful statements like âit will cost anywhere from 100K to 1 millionâ âYou will encounter many unforseen problems along the wayâ.
