Operation Mongoose was a covert CIA and Department of Defense program to overthrow the Communist Castro regime in Cuba by planning and performing political, psychological, military, sabotage, intelligence, and ,most notably, assassination operations specifically against Fidel Castro.

Operation Northwoods was a proposed false flag operation that originated within the US Department of Defense of the United States government in 1962. It was rejected by JFK but, included operations to attack US citizens and Cuban targets with the hope of provoking war between the US and Cuba.
