Chronic pain is clinically challenging for physicians to manage, in both primary care and specialty settings. Contributing to suboptimal outcomes of patients with chronic pain is the reluctance of physicians to prescribe opioid analgesics due to concerns with tolerance, dependence, addiction, and misuse/abuse. This activity will help clinicians address their barriers in optimal pain management, by providing practical strategies to evaluate risk of abuse, and assess the place of opioid abuse deterrent formulations in their effort to provide adequate pain relief.
