In June, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek and First Lady Aimee Kotek Wilson came to Warm Springs. The visit was part of Governor Kotek’s commitment to meet with all of Oregon’s nine federally recognized sovereign Tribal nations in 2024. Since taking office, Governor Kotek has stated that communication and transparency are cornerstone to the state’s relationship with the 9 tribes of Oregon. The visit in Warm Springs included a meeting with the Tribal Council, tours of the Pelton/Round Butte Hydroelectric Project, the Health & Wellness Center, the Warm Springs National Fish Hatchery, Kah-Nee-Ta Resort and the Water Treatment Plant. The governor spent time learning about the Tribes’ public safety services, housing initiatives, human services & education departments. She attended a ceremony designating the newly elected Wasco Chief, Jefferson Greene and made stops at Three Warriors Market, the Museum at Warm Springs, the Thursday Market on campus and here at the Warm Springs Media Center for an interview with KWSO’s Sue Matters.
