We just passed the two-year anniversary of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Oregon: on February 28, 2020, an employee at an elementary school in Lake Oswego was diagnosed with the virus. In the two years since then, students, teachers and school staff have struggled through remote learning, masking, and uncertainty.

But this week, state officials announced plans to shift masking decisions to the local level beginning on March 12th. 

So, the big question becomes: without statewide mandates, what rules will be put in place?
