Orphan wells are oil wells that have been abandoned or whose owners have gone bankrupt. There are orphan wells all over B.C. and they pose a threat to the surrounding farmland due to risk of contamination. Dr. Lenore Newman holds a Canada Research Chair in food security and the environment, and joined us to talk more about this.

A large number of officers have arrived in Smithers and Houston ahead of the anticipated removal of an anti-LNG pipeline camp. Members of the Wet’suwet’en community are voicing their concerns, calling the proposed action, an act of war.  Neetu Garcha talks us through the latest confrontation between the two groups.

Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh was in Burnaby on Sunday rallying the troops ahead of an anticipated byelection in the Burnaby South riding.  Singh has been without a seat in parliament since being elected NDP leader in fall 2017. The rally turned into an all-out attack on the Prime Minister for delaying the byelection until at least March.
