To put it simply, kelpies are mythical water creatures (some believe a type of fairy) from the Celtic lands that typically manifest as white or black phantom horses near bodies of water. They are shapeshifters and depending on the region, time period, and tale, can be either benevolent or malevolent. The Kelpie may arise from ancient horse cults or perhaps from horse gods or psychopomps. Here we discover the kelpie's myth stretches across whole continents and even makes its way across the ocean.
