Our Erie 014: Decolonizing Education & Contextualizing History

Listen Later

For Our Erie's first bookclub discussion, the group unpacked the historical nonfiction writing of William Loren Katz, "Black Indians," which details the intersection of Indigenous, African, African American, and bi/multi-racial people on the land now called the United States. Our Erie's hosts were joined by listeners who read "Black Indians" as well - Molly, Leatra, Madeline, and Buster. With several graduate degrees, a handful of children, and extensive professional & personal experiences with these topics, these guests brought complex, thoughtful, & diverse reflections on this (moderately) controversial book.
