Because Jesus, the Son of God, has passed through the heavens as our great high priest, we are called to hold fast our confession and draw near to the throne of grace with confidence. Unlike every priest before Him, Christ is able to sympathize with our weaknesses, having been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sin. This sermon examines the qualifications of our High Priest from Hebrews 4:14–5:10: appointed by God after the order of Melchizedek, not self-exalted; acquainted with human frailty, offering up prayers with loud cries and tears; and perfected through suffering and obedience, becoming the source of eternal salvation to all who obey Him. In Christ we find mercy and grace to help in time of need.
