Imagine being one of Jesus's twelve disciples or even the 72 he sent out into the cities and towns of Israel
These men accomplished some amazing things in their missionary adventures. They healed the sick, preached the kingdom and even had authority over the demons.
You know they felt a sense of pride when they returned to report their results to Jesus.
Who wouldn't? They were doing kingdom work, making a difference in the world.
But Jesus let them know very clearly that there is something even greater to rejoice over.
"Do not rejoice in this, " he said, "that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."
It feels great when God uses us to make a difference in this world. But let's remember our greatest joy knowing that we are children of God.
That's worth rejoicing over.
