In which we enter the staid and unyielding world of Mr Podsnap, a man who prides himself on the orderly respectability of English life and dismisses all that does not conform with a characteristic flourish of the arm. Amidst a constrained and ceremonious social gathering, we observe the quiet struggles of his daughter Georgiana, a shy young lady overshadowed by her formidable parents and trapped in the burdensome customs of Podsnappery.
