Crime Diner

Our Very Proud Episode

Listen Later

The Pride Parade has been canceled but we didn’t want to forget Pride month.  This week our focus is stories about the LGBTQ+ community. There were too many stories to choose from sadly. Nydia tells us the incredibly sad story of Gwen Araujo, a beautiful, transgender teen who was murdered after a group of men learned that she was assigned male at birth. Dana shares a similar story within the Native American community. She tells us the story of Fred “Frederica” C. Martinez Jr., a two-spirit teen who was the victim of a heinous hate crime that ended his life. (This is a very graphic and triggering episode. There's your warning.)
For dinner, we decided to continue the pride theme and go with rainbow foods. Nydia prepared chicken kabobs with colorful peppers to represent the rainbow flag.  Dana wows us with a rainbow cheesecake that must be seen to be believed. We shared a bottle of Russian River Valley Chardonnay and it was to die for! At under $20, this is our new favorite Chardonnay! It’s perfectly refreshing for summer!
