Outstanding ballots will determine outcome for several candidates

Preliminary results from the Aug. 12 municipal primary show early leaders in several cities and towns, but some contests remain close enough that outstanding ballots could change the outcome. In Utah, municipal primaries are used to narrow the field of candidates ahead of the general election in November, with the top finishers moving forward to appear on the final ballot. Box Elder County Clerk Marla Young said Wednesday that 38 ballots and 50 signatures requiring verification remain outstanding across all cities combined.
