How familiar are you with aquaculture? Florida has a large aquaculture industry, especially with ornamental fish. In this episode, you’ll hear from Eric Cassiano, Assistant Extension Scientist with the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. Pork production is an important part of Iowa agriculture. Iowa is the number one pork producing state, in part because of high levels of corn and soybean production, which is what pigs eat!

New York Agriculture in the Classroom is thinking spring in this episode all about flowers. The cut flower business is interesting because it can be hyper-local, or incredibly global – and everywhere in between. First we will meet Jess Beretz, owner of Farmhouse Floral Design, as we talk about the twists and turns in her path that helped her find her calling in agriculture.

Michaela Kehrer is the agriculture teacher at Berne Knox Westerlo. Michaela grows incredible dahlias, and these flowers are purchased and used by her neighbor Jess Beretz in weddings across the capital region of New York. Inside the classroom, Michaela uses flowers as the real-world teaching tool to give her students a taste of running their own business, and hopefully encouraging their own entrepreneurship.
