Over 12,000 Black American's die from gun violence each year

Listen Later

On this episode, a special guest, Coach Lowery, joined us to discuss an incident in Apopka Flordia where one of his football players shot two of his teammates due to being "bullied," This incident has opened our eyes. We have decided to look deeper into the violence that is taking place in our communities because violence is steadily increasing. We need to do more as a community to stop the violence.
A few facts:
Young Black Americans (ages 15 to 34) experience the highest rates of gun homicides across all demographics.
Black Americans are ten times more likely than white Americans to die by gun homicide.
In 2020, 12,179 Black Americans were killed with guns, compared with 7,286 white Americans:
While Black Americans made up 12.5 percent of the U.S. population that year, they were the victims in 61 percent of all gun homicides
Learning these facts and growing up in these communities where gun violence is getting out of hand, we decided to discuss the problem and give some solutions on how we as a community can start fixing this problem. Some solutions we discussed were parents need to start holding themselves accountable and start parenting and stop trying to be their children's friend; adults in the community need to start being better role models to the children in their community. Our kids are drying rapidly, and we need to do more to try and stop the violence by mentoring, educating, and therapy.
