"Grandly dismissing opposing views as "outmoded" or consigning them to "the dust bin of history" eliminates the need to think about them or to meet their challenge to one's existing presuppositions. Such practices have spread well beyond Marxists. Much of the intellectual legacy of Marx is an anti-intellectual legacy. It has been said that you cannot refute a sneer." -Sowell
"Marx's ringing use of the term "capitalism" was something a verbal coup. It implied a system for the benefit of a small class of people with a unique monopoly of capital assets. But capitalists as thus defined receive only a small fraction of the total income received by labor; yet no one thinks of calling the economic system "laborism," even though that is where three-quarters or more of the income goes." -Sowell
"I have never seen a man whose bearing was so provoking and intolerable [as Karl Marx's]. To no opinion which differed from his own did he accord the honour of even condescending consideration. Everyone who contradicted him he treated with abject contempt; every argument that he did not like he answered either with biting scorn at the unfathomable ignorance that had prompted it, or with opprobrious aspersions upon the motives of him who had advanced it." -Carl Schurz
"I know that [eugenics] numbers many disciples whose intentions are entirely innocent and humane; and who would be sincerely astonished at my describing it as I do. But that is only because evil always wins through the strength of its splendid dupes; and there has in all ages been a disastrous alliance between abnormal innocence and abnormal sin. Of these who are deceived I shall speak of course as we all do of such instruments; judging them by the good they think they are doing, and not by the evil which they really do." -Chesterton
Geophysicist Dorian Abbot was canceled from a speech at MIT because far-left activists hysterically lied about him on Twitter. He said, "I forgive the activists who led the campaign against me. Please do not attack them personally. They are fish swimming in a sea of moral confusion." He's not the only one, professor: It is wrong to forgive those who have not asked for forgiveness. It is to surrender good to evil. I do not forgive them.
