After a 15 year career as a Queensland police officer Llew Obrien took over the seat vacated by Warren Truss, and has a rapid rise through the parliamentary ranks after backing a failed leadership spill to topple Michael McCormack in favour of Barnaby Joice. He then announced he would no longer sit in the nationals party room but remain in the LNP and support the government - and then was unexpectedly nominated by Labor for the deputy speakers position.
