KLC 2015 Theme: Seeking His Kingdom “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

Lesson Text

11 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul. 12 Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation.
1 Peter 2:11–12 (NASB)

19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19–21 (NASB)

In terms of their relationship with the world, overcomers are:

1.) Foreigners (1 Peter 2:11a) Gratifying fleshly lusts is part of the CULTURE of the world. “I am a FOREIGNER in this world with no DESIRE TO STAY.”

15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.

1 John 2:15–17 (NASB)

20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;

Philippians 3:20 (NASB)

Be in the world, not of the world. Maintain a healthy DISSATISFACTION with the world.

1 Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

Colossians 3:1 (NASB)

2.) Warriors (1 Peter 2:11b) You’re in a WAR. Which SIDE are you ON? Are you sure?

22 For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man, 23 but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?

Romans 7:22–24 (NASB)

Be fully CONVINCED that in any and all SITUATIONS the best choice is to handle it GOD'S WAY.

(Gal 5:16-18)

3.) Witnesses (1 Peter 2:12) The world is WATCHING US. We have a RESPONSIBILITY to show the world what God is like so they can worship Him too.

44 “But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous."

Matthew 5:44–45 (NASB)

Consistently living life God’s way is CRITICAL to being an effective witness.

To be an overcomer in life you have to overcome yourself first.
