The Jewish mystics speak of four dimensions of created reality, four planes of existence, four kingdoms of life. Though carefully defined, these are not static strata of creation. They are rather dynamic, morphing, and evolving realities.

The Kabbalists take this one step further: the more we really understand what a living thing is, and what its specific parameters are, the more we understand what it can -- and is destined to -- evolve into.
