Strong as a Mother

Overcoming Nerve Damage: Ursula’s Journey Through Rehabilitation and Resilience

Listen Later

**content warning: birth trauma, maternal injury, postpartum recovery challenges**

When Ursula gave birth to her son, she didn’t go home to start her new life as a mom…she went to a rehab facility. Severe femoral nerve damage from childbirth left her unable to walk and an autoimmune disease from an infection she had after her water was broken meant ongoing treatments.

In this conversation, Ursula shares what it was like when her son’s “first home” was rehab, the reality of healing while parenting a newborn, and why she’s letting go of picture-perfect expectations. This is a story of perseverance, presence, and learning that what your child will remember isn’t the stroller walks or tidy house…it’s that you were there.
