This week's adventure is taken in the company of Jim Shoopack, a man who came through an extraordinary ordeal in 2001, when a severe period of depression left him clinging to life by the fingertips.
Jim came through on the other side, and he's here today to discuss the reasons why life is always worth living, and how fellow sufferers can begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

ABOUT THE GUEST
Jim Shoopack was born and raised in the Pocono Mountains of Eastern Pennsylvania of the United States. Located approximately 75 miles west from downtown Manhattan in New York City, Shoopack has lived in the Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg area his entire life. For the past 14 years he has been a Middle School Spanish teacher and also a Soccer Coach at both the High School and Middle School level at the school district where he teaches. In 2020, he celebrated his 10-year wedding anniversary to his wife Shannah, with whom they have three dogs – Snitches, Sadie and Stewart, and a cat, Doody. In September of 2020 he earned his Doctorate in Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership and Management from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
Shoopack’s story of looking to inspire began in February – May of 2001, when for approximately 100 days he suffered all of the symptoms of depression. It is miraculous that he didn't take his own life. Through prayer, an eventually an out-of-body experience and help from a friend who suffered from clinical depression and advised him to get help, Shoopack went to his Primary Care Physician (PCP) and through a collaborative plan, progress was made through talk therapy, medication, and then exercise. He started to walk short distances with his dog (it was really more him walking Shoopack than the other way around), until finally, he started to jog a mile. This slowly became 3-5 miles, which became training for a marathon.
