Nothing can ruin a teenager's sunny Saturday afternoon more than being told to wash his dad's car. But let the boy buy his own car, and that same Saturday afternoon is an opportunity to wash his car instead of an obligation to wash his dad's. What changed? Now he's washing his car, and the difference between a choice and a chore is ownership. In Ephesians 4:1, the apostle Paul tells us that we've been given ownership of unity, and when we see it as something we own, we'll be a lot more motivated to guard it.
