“Unhealthy anger becomes healthy anger when you look at it like a gift,” is what Jordan so eloquently spoke during this episode.
Welcome to episode 6, “ Owning Your Anger”.
Can anger actually be healthy?
As it turns out, it can be. What does healthy anger look like? It all depends on what you do with it.
It starts with honesty. When we are honest with our self we start to see the layers beneath or behind the anger. These layers, if followed deep enough, can expose the root cause of the anger itself. Anger is a very complex emotion and it can bring with it shame and guilt. So is anger a secondary emotion or does it bring on other secondary emotions?
We just think that perspective matters and how you react/respond to anger is what makes the difference.
Tim brings up author and PhD R. Douglas Fields. He talked about how the acronym LIFEMORTS from the book “Why We Snap” can help with understanding rage more.
What makes you angry? And how long have you held on to that feeling?
As it turns out we hold on to anger because of how vital a feeling it is. Often it can be familiar to us.
Our anger can protect us from harm and guards us from danger, it can give us drive and keep us alert.
Anger can be as useful and necessary as our body’s immune system.
Speak up, be honest, expose your fear, and trust that through open and fair dialogue you can turn your anger into a gift.
