Ozempic maker targets Pacific childhood obesity crisis

Listen Later

Novo Nordisk has partnered with the Murdoch Children's Research Institute to fund a three-year program exploring how weight-loss drugs can help children living with obesity in Pacific Island nations. The pharmaceutical company's CEO warned that 13 million Australians currently live with obesity, ranking Australia 10th highest in the OECD, and that children born in Queensland today may have lifespans four to five years shorter than their parents due to obesity. The program will engage young people, families, clinicians and policymakers to develop youth-focused recommendations for addressing adolescent obesity.
