Poem- Tranquility in the stillness of day
By Sheila Bore.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the stillness of day...kids laughter in the distance, the pitter patter of baby feet sound padded and refreshing
A door slams shut from the lone strong breeze on this hot sweaty day
I lay there and try to take a nap to the music of human chatter
That breaks the silence in the stillness of day.
It’s the hottest day of the year thus far
The one where one wants to sun themselves like a lizard
Yet cool ones thirst with cold icy water from the nearby well
the smorgasbord of the lunch buffet sends wafts of delicious smells
Mouthwatering delicacy served on special occasions such as today.
We just want to shout hurray
That breaks the silence in the stillness of day.
The room in the basement feels as cool as a cucumber
Conducive for an afternoon siesta like slumber
We await the rest of the party guests to arrive
they are late yet to extract themselves from a prior engagement
In the meantime, we thrive, the rest of the household a hive of activity
I take my nap and save my energy for the rest of the festivity.
That breaks the silence in the stillness of day.
Glasses clink to voices of cheers
Half the year has flown by with no tears
A cause for celebration, hearts filled with thanks
for the beauty of simplicity in a shared meal in peace, warmth (and tranquility)
That breaks the silence in the stillness of day.
