Welcome to a Pa La Cultura Yap Session! ☕🎶
Today, we’re talking about the current state of bachata.
From live bands vs. track shows to traditional bachata vs. sensual bachata, there are a lot of conversations happening throughout the bachata community right now. As someone who regularly interviews bachata artists and musicians while also being active in the social dance community, I wanted to share my perspective on how these discussions intersect and what they reveal about the genre today.
What do you think is the biggest conversation happening in bachata right now? Let me know in the comments.

Dame Tu Pasito! 💃🏽✨ | 2-Year Anniversary Interview
This interview was really special to me.
I sat down with Angely and Beverly, the co-founders behind ¡Dame Tu Pasito!, to talk about their journey, their love for bachata, and how they’ve built something that goes beyond just a party, creating a space centered around community, culture, and connection.
This conversation is especially meaningful because I’ve been part of this project from the beginning, working with them since before their very first event and watching it grow over the past two years.
From how it all started to what the space has become today, we dive into what makes ¡Dame Tu Pasito! such a unique experience in NYC.

On this episode of Pa La Cultura, I sit down with Ali De Leon, an artist who’s been making waves with her urban sound blending hip hop, reggaeton, trap, and Spanglish and who’s now stepping into bachata.
We talk about her journey in music, how her cultural roots influence her sound, and what pushed her to explore bachata after working mostly in urban genres. We also get into a real conversation about female representation in bachata, a genre that has always been very male dominated, and what it means for her, as a woman, to add her voice to that space.

I was really intrigued when I heard Romeo Santos and Prince Royce were dropping a whole collab album. Honestly, I didn’t think a full project from them together would deliver… but it completely exceeded my expectations. 🔥
Whether you love it or not, the buzz around Better Late Than Never is amazing for bachata as a whole. No terrible songs here. Just some I vibe with more than others, and I break it all down in the video.
Drop your thoughts below! What songs did you love, not love, or skip? Let’s talk. 💬

In this episode of Pa La Cultura, we sit down with Abismo Ónix, a groundbreaking bachata metal band that fuses the soulful rhythms of bachata with the raw power of heavy metal. 🎸🤘🏽
We dive deep into their creative process as they blend two seemingly opposite genres while staying true to the heart and essence of both. From the emotional storytelling of bachata to the intensity and rebellion of metal, Abismo Ónix is redefining what Latin fusion can sound like.
This isn’t the usual type of content you’ll find on Pa La Cultura, but I felt it was important to highlight artists like Abismo Ónix. Even though they’re pushing boundaries by bringing bachata and metal together, they do it with deep respect for the roots of bachata and the culture it represents. To me, this is what fusion should be: honoring the essence of the original while exploring new creative territory.
Please be respectful toward these artists. If this kind of music isn’t your thing, that’s totally okay. It’s not for everyone. But maybe you know someone who might appreciate it. So come into this interview with an open mind and a lot of respect.
