When a baby cries there is an instinctive rush to remedy what's wrong. When we can't figure out the problem, we give the baby a pacifier. We do this long into adulthood with the cries of our heart. Instead of turning to God in prayer and sharing with him the cries of our heart, we fill our lives with pacifiers. Doing so prevents truly satisfying answers to our heart cries.
