Paddleboarding, staying determined and the power of nature, with Casper Steinfath

Listen Later

Honoured to joined this week by 6 times paddleboard world champion, Red Bull athlete and all round legend, Casper Steinfath (@cj_steinfath) 🙌 We discussed him getting into the sport around the time it was just beginning, and almost accidentally becoming a pro and meeting Robby Naish, to then competing and what paddle boarding is like now! Paddleboarding is one of those sports that has exploded over the last decade, with it being so accessible and relatively simple, it's only gotten bigger. We discussed what its like being at the top of a sport that's in this situation. Something I really wanted to chat to Casper about was his mindset, and his determination. In between competing for world titles, a few years back Casper decided to try and paddle from his home in Denmark, across a notorious stretch of water known as 'Skagerrak', to Norway, his main sponsor, Red Bull, were also documenting the journey. He failed. Just 12km from his destination, his body just said no. as he put it 'Mother Nature gave me a slap in the face.' We discussed why that failure was actually a good thing, and really gave him some great perspective and allowed him to build up, prepare and focus to go again. A year later he succeeded in paddling all 145km across to Norway (be sure to check out the documentary, I've put the link in my bio!) He talked about his mindset of focusing on only what he can control, and trying to stay flexible with what is out of his control, something very necessary for an athlete in his sport! Finally we discussed the vikings nature of exploration, world of warcraft and danish beers. A truly epic conversation with an inspiring human. I can't wait to see what he does next! Hope you enjoy, please like, share , follow etc, it all helps me out a lot! 🙏
