Dylan Cease tossed 5 majestic innings, allowing just 1 hit while striking out 9, Robert Suarez struck out Mason Wynn with the bases loaded to end the game, and the offense threatened all day with big hits from Jake Cronenworth and Jackson Merrill to close out this series with an emphatic 7-3 win to win the series over the Cardinals.

 

Jason Adam, Jeremiah, Estrada and David, Morgan each worked a scoreless inning, then Mike Schildt inexplicably brought in Adrian Morejon in spite of having closer Robert Suarez and newly acquired Mason Miller available.

 

Morejon- who had been nearly unhittable recently- was thrust into an unfamiliar role by manager Mike Schildt. The lefty faced 6 hitters, giving up 4 singles and a walk to allow 3 runs and leave with the bases loaded.

 

Cronenworth ripped the two run home run to open the scoring for the pods, and Merrill added a three run triple to help put the game away.

 

The bottom of the Padres lineup crushed all day, with Cronenworth, Ramon Laureano combining to go blank for blank with blank RBI and blank run score.

 

This is exactly what AJ Preller was hoping for when he made his moves to strengthen the bottom of the lineup at the trade deadline.
