Gavin Sheets homered twice, Ryan O’Hearn and Manny Machado also homered, and JP Sears + the bullpen held the Giants down all night as the Padres took a 2-1 series lead with an 8-1 blowout victory at Petco Park.

 

Fernando Tatis Jr went 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI, and he also made the defensive play of the game, taking a home run away from Rafael Devers with a leaping grab in the 1st inning.

 

Nando led off the bottom of the 1st with a double, and later scored on O’Hearn’s RBI single. Sheets homered to lead off the 2nd, making it 2-0.

 

The Pads added 4 more in the 3rd on Manny Machado’s solo HR, and a 3-run shot from Sheets.

 

O’Hearn’s crushed a solo shot to straightaway center-field in the 7th and Tatis drove in Freddy Fermin with a double in the 8th to close out the scoring.

 

Sears- the lefty who was acquired from the Oakland A’s at the trade deadline along with Mason Miller, tossed 6 innings of 4-hit ball, allowing just a solo homer to Casey Schmitt in the 4th.

 

Wandy Peralta, Yuki Matsui and David Morgan shut the Giants out from there, and the Pads ran their record to 9-3 against the Giants this season.

 

The Dodgers lost at Colorado tonight, so the Pads moved back to within a game of 1st-place LA in the NL West. The Dodgers come to Petco fornan3-game series this weekend.
