Dylan Cease pitched 5 strong innings to win his 1st road game this season, Manny Machado launched a deep home run in the 1st inning, and Jackson Merrill was a triple shy of the cycle as the San Diego Padres pounded out 15 hits- 4 of them homers- in a 10-2 destruction of the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Denver that wins the series 2-1.

 

Machado, (23) Merrill, (10) Ramon Laureano (23) and Gavin Sheets (19) all went deep for the Pads, who ripped off 20 runs on 31 hits over the 2nd 2 games of the series after losing the series opener on Friday.

 

Manny drove in 3 runs in 2 hits. Merrill had 3 hits and an RBI.

 

The 6-7-8-9 boys- Sheets, Merrill, Jake Cronenworth and Freddy Fermin- went 9-19. Fermin went 4-8 in the series.

 

Cease (7-11) went 5 innings giving up an earned run on  hits while striking out 5 and walking 2.

 

Adrian Morejon worked 2 shutout innings of relief, then David Morgan and Ron Marinaccio each tossed a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.

The Pads head back home to face the Cincinnati Reds in a 3-game series starting tomorrow evening, with 1st pitch set for pm PT.
