A historic mountain retreat showcases a reverence for nature through art. Tucked above a glacial lake in New York’s Hudson Valley, the Mohonk Mountain House is a place where nature has always been more than a backdrop—it’s the heartbeat of the experience. Since 1869, this Victorian castle resort has invited guests to step into a world shaped by mountain air, meandering forest paths, and rocky eminences with amazing views. But inside its walls, something equally breathtaking is now blooming. In a new exhibit titled Essence by Design, Mohonk displays 41 hand-painted glass slides from the early 1900s that have each been digitally enlarged and artfully displayed as large-scale (26×32-inch) prints.
