We are already diving deep as we head into the second episode of season two, thank you again for being here. Today I am honored to be speaking with artist Meg, from Brushstrokes Imagination. Mother, grandmother, student, and fellow human living with DID, today's conversation is a poignant one. For Meg, as an artist, her art is many things and one of the primary ways she can express herself and show love to her parts.
We discuss what it's like to be living with DID and how we can show love to all of our parts, give ample rest when needed, and know that it's healthy to both express anger, and know when to play and when to show up in responsibility and accountability. Meg takes us on the journey she has experienced during parenting, and how DID isn't something to overcome, but instead, it's how you can work with it, and deciding where the sprinkles are within you.
From Meg:
"Shift Happens"
Do you ever look in the mirror to check in with yourself? Not for blemishes or brushing your teeth but, more like a sanity check. What's goin on in there. Is your head & heart in sync or are they saying two different things? Do you even recognize yourself? I struggle hourly with mental illness. I'd wish it to be different. But I couldn't have turned out any other way. Because of the childhood trauma I endured my brain developed differently & my coping skills are to dissociate or create a false self to mask the pain. Mental illness isn't noticeable like a limb missing. It's inside. It's not easy to articulate not because of my vocabulary but because there are so many vastly different feelings going on at once. We all have struggles, some are hidden in plain sight, others are not. My motto is be kind & rewind because some are more scattered & covered & smothered more than others. Love to you all who are still listening & learning about yourself & those you love.
Join us, as we fight against the stigmas placed upon mental health, and how the media exploits DID. Get to know it. Get to know us.
