I enjoy anything about New Zealand history, and this was a great listen. Yes, it is not a fictional story, but a narrative and that's just fine by me.

The settled history of New Zealand happened in such a short span - with the Maori arriving from the sea around the 13th century. When the island was 'discovered' by Europeans in 1642.

Highly recommended for anyone wanting to know more about New Zealand history, the settlers and the Maori.

Many facts, no plot

Expecting a story, I was disappointed to hear an academic dissertation without any plot. The author has done his research and presents all of the facts but in a boring way.

The reader does an amazing performance with so many Maori words. The appendix is the best part because it is the story of an individual woman in her own words.

Killed & eaten!

Fun story of how to try to avoid being thrown in the pot! The Maori didn't like salty sailors. Them they fed to the dogs.
