EPISODE INTRODUCTION:
These 4 long months of self-isolation has been tough on everyone, but in this episode, we discuss how the pandemic has affected men specifically. Although we are in an age where we are discussing and re-defining what it is to be a ‘man’, there are certain aspects of being ‘manly’ that will never change. In this episode, we look at how the lack of earnings and a decrease in access to sports & recreation can have a direct, negative effect on a man’s self-identity and livelihood.
On episode 3 Mr. Mike discusses:
How the quarantine makes a man feel emasculating.
Men are being diagnosed with COVID-19 and dying at much higher, disproportional rates.
Many men define themselves by their jobs, or what they do for a living. How does losing one’s job affect their livelihood?
Not being able to go to the barbershop doesn’t just affect our grooming and the way we look, but it also removes one of the main ways in which we engage with our community.
How having regular routines is an important aspect of how a man lives his life.
How men have adapted to self-isolation and working from home.
Not being able to exercise and work out the way you're used to, can affect our moods and well-being.
How men are coping and adapting to change.
Quotes from the show:
