Welcome to Episode 10 of Panels & Pacing: An Animation Editing Podcast. Today I’ll be talking to Aaron Diecker, a Dialogue Editor with credits that include Family Guy, King of the Hill, American Dad, and What We Do in the Shadows.
Aaron is strictly a sound guy, in his own words. But he primarily works in Animation, although sometimes dipping into live action. Aaron literally wrote the book on Animation Dialogue Editing, called “Animation Dialogue Editing: Building the Voice of the Show.”
As with a lot of animation workflows, there are separate steps in the overall process and often there are separate editors for each of those steps. Dialogue editors are usually the first editorial line of defense in the process, and set the stage for the rest of the whole pipeline, in a way.
Josh and Aaron discuss Aaron's career starting in music production, and how he followed a path that brought him to Los Angeles and in the Seth MacFarlane world, editing dialogue on a variety of FOX animated series.
Aaron spends time talking about the animation dialogue editing process, working with picture editors, and his initial start in the music world - playing in bands and going to Berklee College of Music.
