| Quick questions for your district:
| 📍 How many nursing homes, rehab centers & extended care facilities do you serve? 📍 How many of those "emergency" runs are actually glorified interfacility transfers?
|
| For decades, extended-care facilities, urgent cares & physicians’ offices have used 911 for routine interfacility transport.
| Not emergencies. Routine transfers. Abnormal labs, a broken bone from 3 hours ago, a change in mental status of a dementia patient and even a low BP or hypo cardia on a DNR patient.
| THE IMPACT: 🚑 Ties up ambulances ⏱️ Delays true emergency responses 😫 Fuels EMT & paramedic fatigue, burnout, and turnover
| THE FIX ISN'T COMPLICATED:
| • Clear transport guidelines • Facility accountability • Non-emergency transportation resources • Policies that protect EMS availability
| BUT PAPER TIGERS WON'T TOUCH IT.
| They're too busy belonging to chiefs' societies, patting each other on the back, and treating this as "someone else's problem."
| EMTs and paramedics are emergency medical professionals—not a substitute for routine transportation services.
| Use the right resource for the right need.
| Our communities, patients, and EMS providers deserve better.

| An ambulance is not a shuttle bus. Treat it like one and everyone loses.
You know the type. An officer with a title but no real skill behind it. The online PhD in everything, hands-on experience in nothing. They came up through prevention work and never actually led adults anywhere — unless you count coaching their kid's tee ball team.
Their only real objective? The next promotion.
Watch the budget. They'll drain an entire department's training fund to send themselves to a conference at a resort — then deny a member of their own department the short drive to a neighboring agency for training that would have actually mattered.
Then they all gather at the resort and start building. Accreditation companies. Credentialing companies. Assessment companies. Consulting firms. Everyone endorses everyone else's side hustle, and the cycle feeds itself. They never leave their chief’s association, because what they've built together is the largest Ponzi scheme on Earth — and they're all in.
Stop accepting it. Stop promoting it. Stop supporting it. Stop following it.
The "run it like a business" era made it worse
THE EVIDENCE
📉 Increased turnover
📉 Morale down to scary levels
📉 Increased workplace injuries
📉 ZERO decrease in LODD
THE CULPRITS: Paper Tiger Leaders — hired and promoted under the business-first model.
We tried to warn people. We got attacked. Now the results speak for themselves.
They say safety is paramount. Then why are we…
🚒 Running 2-person engines? 🚒 Running 3-person trucks? 🚒 Working massive overtime to serve citizens — then accused of "stealing" that same overtime pay? 🚒 Transporting contaminated gear in our POVs because nothing else is provided?
They could fix this. But they don't.
Paper Tiger Leaders only show concern when the cameras roll. When no one's watching? They take care of themselves.
The experiment is over. The data is in. Time to admit what we all see.

| 🚨 HOW PAPER TIGERS BROKE THE HIRING PROCESS 🚨
| The problem isn't that nobody wants this job.
| It's that the process was rebuilt to select for the wrong person — and the people who rebuilt it are the ones it selects for.
| 1. THE ASSESSMENT CENTER IS A MIRROR
| A panel of chiefs writes the scenarios. The same chiefs write the scoring rubric. The same chiefs grade it.
| Then they hire whoever performs most like them.
| It doesn't measure leadership. It measures fluency in their dialect. The right acronyms. The right binder format. The right amount of time spent in the right rooms.
| 2. INTERVIEWS REWARD PERFORMANCE
| Paper Tigers interview beautifully. They have the degree. They have the credential. They have the polished answer.
| What the interview never asks: what got better for the crew on your watch?
| Because if it did, half the finalists would be gone at the first round.
| 3. THE CANDIDATE WHO SHOULD WIN NEVER APPLIES
| The officer the crew would follow — the one who actually fixed things — looks at the process and opts out.
| They see who's on the panel. They see who won last time. They see the cost of the certificate and the politics of the room.
| And they decide it isn't worth it.
| 4. THE PIPELINE NARROWS BEFORE THE PROMOTION
| The cub who asks the wrong question in the meeting gets managed out early. The one who makes a step in the chain look bad doesn't make the list. The one who calls out the double standard is told there's a "culture problem."
| By the time the assessment center convenes, the field is already filtered. Not by competence. By compliance.
| 5. THE HIRING PROCESS BECOMES THE RETENTION PROBLEM
| You hire for polish, you get polish. Then turnover spikes, morale drops, injuries rise, and LODD doesn't move.
| And the department announces a recruitment campaign — when the problem was never the front door.
| It was always who they chose to walk through it.
| WHAT A REAL PROCESS ASKS
| Would the crew follow this person when it's bad?
| What did they fix, and can anyone name it?
| Who did they protect when it cost them something?
| Did they ever take a hit for their people?
| If the panel can't answer those, it's not assessing leadership. It's reproducing itself.
| THE FIX STARTS WITH WHO'S ON THE PANEL
| Not the same association, the same board, the same consulting circle, the same assessment center.
| If every person grading the candidates was selected by that same process, you're not hiring leaders.
| You're cloning them.

| You don't have a hiring crisis. You have a selection problem — and the people who built it are the people it keeps selecting.
