What does the parable of one lost sheep reveal about Jesus? What does it show about the child of God?

The Parable of the Net - Judgment Day

Jesus asks whether the disciples understand his parables, then appoints them as kingdom scribes who must bring forth treasures new and old. Christ fulfills the Old Testament rather than replacing it, so faithful preaching unites covenant continuity with gospel fulfillment. Pastors and believers are called to steward all Scripture, read it through Christ, and feed God's household with both the ancient promises and their new covenant fulfillment in Jesus.

In this parable we find three distinct items: The SEED (which is the word of God), the SOWER (which is the children of God), and the SOIL (which is the hearts of man). Only one type of soil brought forth life and produced fruit. The problem was not with the seed, nor was it with the sower, but the problem was with the soil - it was not properly prepared to receive the seed. Is the soil of your heart prepared to receive the seed God sows your way from His word?

Do you see Christ's great exposure of sinners and their sin? Do you see the distinct fruit of the hearts of these two sons? An important question for you this morning is- Which son are you? Do you bear the fruit of saving grace, the fruit of repentance? Or do you have a hard heart that rejects John's call, that truly rejects Christ's call in the Gospel to believe and trust in Him, to turn from your sin, and unto Him alone for your salvation and forgiveness, then desiring to follow and obey the King?
