Exorcisms is it all a glow from the bright lights of Hollywood movies, claiming to be “based on a true story”—attracting mass audiences, and raging skepticism. What we do know is that the ancient practice of banishing demons or other entities from a person isn’t merely fake blood and cool graphics for entertainment purposes. Exorcisms are very much a part of cultural mythology, and occupy an important place in some religions. These practices are brutal, messy and often times deadly.... But is possession a real phenomenon? Now none of us knows for sure if demons walk among us, and science can explain in some cases what might cause a person to appear “demonically possessed.” But science can’t explain the phenomenon 100 percent of the time, or even 60 percent of the time….
